Is MENACE Early Access Available Now?
MENACE early access is already playable, and its latest patches change how you build and protect your strike force. It launched on February 5, 2026, for Windows PC through Steam and GOG. Before starting MENACE early access, check the current perk changes and upcoming campaign additions so you can choose between continuing a save and planning a fresh run.
Developed by Overhype Studios and published by Hooded Horse, MENACE puts you in command of a Republic Marine Corps strike force in the isolated Wayback system. You manage infantry squads, vehicles, equipment, and ship upgrades while fighting through operations made up of connected missions.

You can buy MENACE on Steam or get the DRM-free GOG edition. GOG Galaxy is optional for the GOG version, although it handles features such as achievement synchronization and cloud saves.
MENACE early access remains in active development. Combat systems, perks, equipment costs, and campaign content are still changing, so older build advice needs to be checked against the current version.
What the Latest Updates Change
The recent balancing overhaul, version 0.7.16, affects far more than weapon damage. It changes squad leader perk trees, equipment prices, support options, movement rules, and Ironman behavior. Hotfix #13 then moves the game to version 0.7.17 with performance changes and another adjustment to Lim.

For returning MENACE early access players, the immediate priority is rebuilding promotions. Version 0.7.16 refunds all promotion points because several perks were changed or replaced. Version 0.7.17 separately resets and refunds Lim’s promotions after replacing Solid Grouping with Zig-Zag.
Recheck promotions before deploying
Load your campaign and review each squad leader’s available perks before launching another mission. An existing save remains usable, but your previous promotion choices need attention.
Several changes create different tactical options:
| Change | Current effect | What to check before combat |
|---|---|---|
| Sprint | Costs 40 AP, moves up to five tiles, and applies winded afterward | Account for its AP cost and the resulting status effect |
| Take Aim | Delays the active unit’s turn and grants +10% accuracy and +30% critical hit chance | Reconsider leaders that previously used Standby |
| Critical hits | Gain 50% increased armor penetration | Review weapons and perks that raise critical hit chance |
| Blind fire | Receives a -60% accuracy penalty | Check target visibility before committing ammunition |
| Damage reduction | Capped at 90% | Recalculate builds that combine defensive effects |
| Heatsink | Raises maximum vehicle heat capacity by 50% | Review it alongside your vehicle weapon loadout |
Take Aim now combines the former Standby and Take Aim perks. That makes a familiar perk name worth rereading: it affects both activation timing and attack bonuses.
The equipment changes also deserve a fresh look. The Tripod Laser Lance drops from 70 to 45 supply cost. Several machine guns receive larger ammunition reserves or improved suppression.
Recheck your deployment budget after changing weapons. Some equipment becomes cheaper, while other choices become more expensive; the Tripod Griffin Minigun, for example, gains stronger fire modes but rises from 50 to 65 supply cost.
Understand the updated Ironman rules
Version 0.7.16 tightens Ironman substantially. Quitting or closing the game during a mission aborts that mission, and reloading can no longer restore squad leaders who were downed or killed during it.
Finish your preparation before committing to an Ironman deployment. Treat retreat decisions, casualties, and the time needed to complete a mission as part of the operation.
Apply Hotfix #13 before judging performance
Version 0.7.17 disables Screen Space Global Illumination because its GPU cost was higher than expected and could cause crashes. The hotfix also addresses plants fading too quickly when zoomed out and fixes some Chinese and Portuguese translation issues.
Lim keeps the restored Zig-Zag perk in this version. Reassign his refunded promotions before bringing him back into the field.
How to Prepare Your Campaign and Protect Resources
MENACE early access revolves around linked operations, limited supplies, and the consequences of casualties. A squad that takes unnecessary losses can leave you with fewer resources for the missions ahead.

Infantry squads and vehicles create different pressures. Infantry firepower falls as squaddies die. Vehicles remain single units, but deploying them consumes substantial supplies, and damage can persist across missions within an operation.
Build your force around the objectives and enemies you expect to face. Adding a vehicle also means committing resources that could otherwise equip infantry.
Spend early rewards on useful equipment
Prioritize weapon upgrades when your starting loadouts struggle to damage or suppress enemies. Compare supply costs alongside damage, accuracy, ammunition, and available fire modes.
Keep anti-vehicle and anti-structure weapons available. An enemy behind destructible cover presents a different problem from an armored vehicle, but both can punish a force equipped only for ordinary infantry.
Before buying equipment, check which platform can use it. A weapon that looks suitable for a vehicle still needs to fit its equipment options.
Preserve AP while exploring
Move between cover positions and leave enough action points to respond when advancing into unexplored ground. Spending your entire turn on movement can leave a squad exposed when enemies appear.
Read the primary and secondary objectives separately. A speed-related secondary objective does not automatically make the entire mission a race. Version 0.7.16 also gives objectives individual progress bars, making their requirements easier to track.
Use suppression to support movement against entrenched enemies. Coordinate fire and repositioning instead of spending every squad’s turn trying to force damage through the same cover.
Spread ammunition use across the force
Check ammunition capacity before deployment, especially when equipping powerful specialist weapons. A high-damage unit still has a finite supply of attacks.
Rotate supporting squads into active engagements rather than letting one vehicle or infantry unit handle every target. Suppression also spends ammunition, so weigh sustained fire against the remaining threats.
Returning to MENACE early access after the overhaul is also a reason to reconsider casualty protection. The new IFAK accessory increases squaddie rescue chance by 25% and guarantees that one squaddie is rescued. The revised First Aid perk adds a 20% rescue chance for all units, with a minimum of one rescued squaddie.
The MENACE Roadmap for Late 2026 and 2027
The MENACE early access roadmap lays out an update order rather than fixed release days. Its balancing overhaul has already arrived, leaving the next character update and story expansion as the remaining major items in the late-2026 plan.

Those upcoming additions were targeted as likely to arrive within 2026. Keep that distinction in mind when deciding whether to start another campaign: an announced sequence gives you a development direction, while individual launch dates remain separate announcements.
| Roadmap milestone | Planned additions | Campaign implications |
|---|---|---|
| Balancing Overhaul | Broad changes to perks, equipment, squad leaders, and support options | Released as v0.7.16; promotions refunded |
| Squad Leader Update #2 | One squad leader and one pilot | Adds characters with different personalities and playstyles |
| Extended Campaign option | Progression slowed to roughly half its existing pace | Designed for a longer campaign |
| Main Story Expansion #1 | Story progression, more Construct units, Level 2 Blueprints, and new items | Some content unlocks only in fresh campaigns |
| Early-2027 System Map update | New mechanics and interactions | Expands the strategic map |
| Further 2027 development | Planet environments, missing planets and factions, additional leaders, final story content, and character interactions | Builds toward the full game |
Decide whether to continue or restart
The announced Main Story Expansion #1 preserves existing saves. You can continue a campaign after it arrives, but some of its content requires a fresh campaign.
Continue your current run if you want to explore the revised equipment and perks with an established roster. Start fresh after the expansion if you want access to the additions tied to new campaigns.
The expansion is intended to bring the game beyond 60% completion. That is a development milestone, rather than a measure of how much of your current campaign you have finished.
Consider the Extended Campaign option
The planned Extended Campaign option reduces progression speed to roughly half its current pace. It is aimed at players who want a slower campaign with more time between major progression steps.
The later roadmap also includes more work on character relationships and interactions. Squad leaders already have distinct backgrounds and personalities, while further development is intended to explore their histories and relationships in more depth.
PC Requirements and Practical Performance Fixes
Before installing MENACE early access, check both your hardware and storage. An SSD is recommended, and HDD installations have known problems with long loading times and delayed character voice lines.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10, 64-bit | Windows 10, 64-bit |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-7600 or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X | Intel Core i5-9600K or AMD Ryzen 5 2600X |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4 GB or AMD Radeon RX 570 4 GB | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 8 GB or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT 8 GB |
| DirectX | Version 11 | Version 12 |
| Storage | 12 GB available | 12 GB available; SSD recommended |
Install version 0.7.17 before troubleshooting performance against older builds. Its lighting change directly addresses an expensive graphics feature, so launch-era performance impressions do not describe every later version.
For the remaining known issues:
- Fullscreen trouble after minimizing: Select Fullscreen Window.
- Crashes with a high-refresh monitor: Enable Vsync or lower the frame rate to 60 FPS or below.
- Slow loading and delayed voice lines on an HDD: Move the installation to an SSD.
- Missing game files after an antivirus alert: Check whether the antivirus quarantined GameAssembly.dll or Menace.exe; these files have a known false-positive issue.
Choose your starting point around what you want from the campaign. Play now to work through the revised combat systems and equipment choices. Wait for Main Story Expansion #1 if your priority is beginning a fresh run with its campaign-specific additions.
