How MENACE Vehicle Weapons and Slots Work

A bigger gun can turn your troop carrier into a vehicle that no longer carries troops. MENACE vehicle weapons determine your battlefield role, supply commitment, and transport options. Build your MENACE vehicle weapons loadout around the chassis and mission before spending supplies on firepower.

Every vehicle starts with a chassis that determines its armor, hit points, and weapon slots. A pilot needs an assigned vehicle to deploy. Weapons come in light, medium, and heavy sizes, with compatibility rules that allow some smaller systems to occupy larger mounts.

Weapon classExamplesSlot and vehicle rules
LightMachine guns, light flamethrowers, plasma rifles, Anti-Materiel Rifle "Crocodile"Fit light slots and, since Patch #10, medium slots
MediumLaser Lance, Rocket Launcher, Heavy Flamethrower, AT-RGLFit medium slots; the light carrier’s heavy slot also accepts medium weapons
HeavyTank guns, 120mm Mortar, twin-linked machine gunsRequire a heavy slot and remove any existing transport capacity

The transport tradeoff deserves attention. The light carrier has a light slot and a heavy slot, but installing an actual heavy weapon removes its ability to transport a squad. Using a compatible medium weapon in that mount preserves the transport role.

Vehicle appearance can change with equipment, too. A heavy mortar can alter more than the turret on a light carrier, changing the overall vehicle model.

Patch #10 also expanded smaller-weapon flexibility. Medium walkers can equip matching light weapons and gain a twin-fire skill. Ignore older restrictions that say medium slots cannot accept light weapons.

Medium Weapons: Compare Firepower Against Supply Cost

Medium MENACE vehicle weapons cover several jobs: direct damage, anti-tank fire, area attacks, and reconnaissance. The v0.7.16 balancing update lowered the supply costs of several options while improving specific weapons’ damage or action economy.

Machine guns and airburst weapons

The M6 remains an option for direct fire, but its increased accuracy penalty and higher supply cost deserve a fresh look when preparing a loadout. Account for the -15 penalty before combining it with other accuracy reductions.

The Griffin Dynamics Rotary Barrel Machinegun now costs 30 AP for Salvo and 50 AP for Strafing, down from 40 and 60. Its armor penetration dropoff improved from -1.7 to -1.6, and its trade value fell from 80 to 70.

Recheck how much AP remains after movement. Those reduced firing costs can change which attacks fit into a turn.

The Swarm Airburst Launcher received both damage improvements and a supply reduction from 60 to 40. Airburst launchers can also target blocked tiles after the v0.7.16 fix. Revisit its targeting options when terrain obstructs your intended attack.

Anti-tank weapons and reconnaissance

The Rocket Launcher and AT-RGL now share a supply cost of 40. The Laser Lance costs 45 and became available at the black market in v0.7.16.

For heavier anti-tank work, consider the vehicle ATGM when assembling a loadout around marked targets and distant firing positions. Keep a fragile launcher platform behind the front line and use another unit to mark its target.

Ground Radar fills a different role: detecting enemy positions rather than dealing damage. Its reduced cost makes reconnaissance less expensive to include. Use its contacts to direct your advance, then identify the enemies before committing your attack.

Heavy Weapons: Tank Guns, Twin Mounts, and Mortars

Heavy MENACE vehicle weapons demand a heavy mount and sacrifice transport capacity. Their costs and firing characteristics vary substantially, so compare the weapon’s entire turn with the supplies needed to field it.

Heavy weaponv0.7.16 firing changesUpdated supply cost
Twin Griffin Dynamics Rotary Barrel MachinegunSalvo: 30 AP and 40 repetitions; Strafing: 50 AP and 120 repetitions; ideal range 4110
Long Barreled Tank GunTrade value increased from 80 to 9070
Short Barreled Tank GunElements hit increased to 2+40%; guaranteed impact with a 25% chance to scatter up to one tileUnchanged in this update
Twin Heavy MGSupply cost reduced from 9080
120mm MortarRange 10–22; all fire modes cost 40 AP; ammunition increased to 1450

Twin-linked weapons

Version 0.7.16 removed the additional accuracy penalty from all twin-linked weapons. That change matters when comparing a heavy twin mount against another weapon arrangement.

The Twin Griffin also received substantial changes beyond accuracy. Salvo repetitions increased from 30 to 40, while Strafing repetitions rose from 80 to 120. Both modes became cheaper to fire, and the weapon’s supply cost dropped from 140 to 110.

Recalculate older MENACE vehicle weapons loadouts that used the previous 140-supply price. Keep the new 110 cost in perspective, though: the chassis and pilot still contribute to the total commitment.

Tank guns

The Long Barreled Tank Gun now costs 70 supplies, up from 60. Include that increase when comparing it with other anti-tank equipment.

The Short Barreled Tank Gun received a different improvement. Its elements-hit value increased from 1+40% to 2+40%, and its shot now always produces an impact, with a 25% chance to scatter up to one tile.

A guaranteed impact does not guarantee that the shell lands on the selected tile. Leave room around nearby friendly units when choosing the impact point.

The revised 120mm Mortar

The 120mm Mortar changed considerably. Its minimum range increased from 8 to 10, while maximum range expanded from 16 to 22.

At the area-of-effect center, damage increased from 25 to 100, armor penetration from 35 to 100, and armor damage from 15 to 80. Elements hit increased from one to two. These are center-hit values; do not apply them to every affected tile.

Scatter chance fell from 70% to 60%. Position the mortar behind the fighting line, protect its minimum-range gap, and account for scatter before firing near allies.

Match Your Chassis to the Loadout

Selecting MENACE vehicle weapons means deciding what the whole vehicle must accomplish. A transport, reconnaissance truck, and dual-weapon walker place different demands on their mounts.

Keep the carrier’s job clear

Choose the carrier’s transport role before selecting its main gun. Equip a medium weapon when moving infantry is part of the plan. Install a heavy weapon when you intend to field the chassis as a dedicated weapons platform.

Keep that decision visible during mission preparation. A carrier fitted with a tank gun no longer supplies the same battlefield function as one carrying infantry.

Plan around the medium walker’s mounts

The medium walker accepts two medium weapons, either different systems or matching ones. Matching weapons enable linked firing; mixed weapons provide separate equipment choices.

Use matching mounts when your plan depends on concentrating that weapon’s fire. Choose different weapons when you need the walker to carry distinct attack options.

Include both weapons in your supply calculation. Comparing one mounted gun’s price with a complete heavy twin weapon leaves out part of the loadout.

Protect support vehicles

Keep a pirate truck carrying radar or an ATGM away from exposed frontline positions. Its fragility makes positioning central to the build.

With radar, use the vehicle to locate contacts before advancing. With an ATGM, coordinate target marking and firing positions so the launcher can contribute from the rear.

Perks, Heat, and Firing Decisions

MENACE vehicle weapons also interact with leader perks, accessories, and targeting rules. Version 0.7.16 changed several of these systems, making promotion choices worth reviewing alongside equipment.

Perk, accessory, or rulev0.7.16 effect
HeatsinkIncreases maximum vehicle heat capacity by 50%
SharpshooterReduces enemy cover level by two; applies to special weapons and vehicle weapons
Take AimDelays the active unit’s turn and grants +10% accuracy and +30% critical hit chance
Critical hitsGain 50% increased armor penetration
Blind fireFiring at a tile blindly carries a -60% accuracy penalty

The Heatsink expands maximum heat capacity. Read that benefit as additional capacity when planning heat-based weapon use; it does not provide an increase to every aspect of weapon performance.

For attacks against covered enemies, consider Sharpshooter’s two-level cover reduction. For a delayed attack, weigh Take Aim’s accuracy and critical bonuses against acting immediately.

Critical hits now gain increased armor penetration, and the Critical Hits perk’s damage increase was fixed in the same update. Account for these changes when reviewing an anti-armor build.

Before deploying, run through this checklist:

  • Check each weapon against the chassis’s available mounts.
  • Confirm whether a heavy weapon removes transport you intended to use.
  • Add the pilot, chassis, and every mounted weapon to the supply commitment.
  • Compare movement needs with the weapon’s AP cost.
  • Review accuracy penalties, heat capacity, range limits, and scatter.

Avoid using blind tile fire as your default attack. Its -60% accuracy penalty is substantial. Identify the enemy and prepare the firing position before committing an expensive attack.

FAQ

Which MENACE vehicle weapons fit medium slots?

Medium slots accept medium weapons and light vehicle weapons. Light-weapon compatibility was added in Patch #10. Medium walkers can equip matching light weapons and gain a twin-fire skill.

Do heavy weapons remove troop transport capacity?

Yes. Equipping a heavy weapon removes the vehicle’s existing transport capacity. The light carrier can instead equip a medium weapon in its heavy slot while retaining its transport role.

What changed for the 120mm Mortar in v0.7.16?

Its range became 10–22, all fire modes dropped to 40 AP, and ammunition increased to 14. Center-hit damage, armor penetration, and armor damage increased substantially. Scatter chance decreased to 60%, and supply cost dropped to 50.

Did Hotfix #13 change MENACE vehicle weapons again?

Hotfix #13, version 0.7.17, focused on performance, restored Lim’s Zig-Zag perk, and addressed visual and translation issues. The weapon adjustments covered here belong to the v0.7.16 balancing update.
