Suppressed Recon Build: Spot Enemies and Attack From Concealment

A MENACE Jane Darby build gives you the vision to find dangerous enemies before your assault squads walk into them. Build around concealment and accurate rifle fire, and that information becomes an opening to eliminate threats. Start your MENACE Jane Darby build with Scout, concealment perks, and a suppressed Crowbar, then adjust her equipment around the mission.

Darby combines strong accuracy with scouting and precision shooting options. Her attacks also disable enemy special weapons for one turn, giving her a useful role against threats that survive the initial exchange.

The main constraint is supply. She is a three-star infantry Squad Leader with a high deployment cost and promotion tax. Spend on a clear battlefield role before adding every attractive upgrade.

Build around information first

Prioritize Scout when developing this version of your MENACE jane darby build. Seeing farther helps you choose firing positions, identify support weapons, and avoid pushing another squad into an unseen threat.

Add Covert Ops to support concealed movement, then work toward Ambush and Impossible Shot as you develop her precision role. Impossible Shot increases maximum weapon range by 20%.

Keep your promotion plan focused. Extra reach earns its place when Darby can see a target and maintain a useful firing lane. Concealment earns its place when you preserve it through positioning and weapon choice.

Keep suppression and concealment separate

A suppressed rifle supports stealth, but enemy detection still matters. Advance cautiously around enemies with stronger detection, including Jaegers and Rogue Army Officers.

Press R with the squad selected to inspect enemy detection ranges. Check Darby’s status icon as well: a crossed eye means she is unspotted; the absence of that eye icon means she has been spotted.

Move one tile at a time near uncertain positions and preserve AP for withdrawal. Avoid placing this stealth squad in a tower, where the concealment penalty works against the build.

Long-Range Rifle Build: Keep Darby in the Squad Volley

Choose the rifle-focused MENACE Jane Darby build when you want her accuracy contributing directly to squad fire. Leave her special weapon unequipped so she participates in the volleys, and invest in the squad weapon and ammunition support.

The Crowbar offers long range, strong damage per bullet, armor penetration, and suppression. Its lower rate of fire and poor close-range accuracy create a clear tradeoff: you need another squad covering nearby threats.

Choose ammunition for the job

Use magazine pouches when Darby’s squad will spend the mission firing its primary weapon. For a full rifle squad, work toward eight soldiers when your supply budget supports the equipment and supporting force.

Consider Match Grade ammunition to extend the accuracy-and-range approach. Choose Armor Piercing ammunition when armor penetration is the immediate problem.

Jaeger Fatigues have two accessory slots, so make the tradeoff deliberately. Taking an ammunition upgrade alongside magazine pouches leaves no slot for Binoculars on that armor. Keep Binoculars when Darby is responsible for reconnaissance; shift toward ammunition when another unit already handles spotting.

Cover the battle rifle’s weak point

Keep an assault rifle, SMG, or shotgun squad positioned to handle enemies closing on Darby. The Crowbar’s strong individual shots do not replace close-range protection or high-volume fire against large groups.

Use this MENACE Jane Darby build from a position that supports the objective. Choose a flank or rear firing lane with clear targets, rather than moving her so far away that the rest of the force cannot benefit from her shots.

For an unsuppressed rifle, account for the stealth cost: firing removes concealment for one turn. Establish distance and a withdrawal route before opening fire.

Crocodile Precision Build: Add a Dedicated Special Weapon

Equip the Anti-Materiel Rifle “Crocodile” when you want Darby handling precision special-weapon fire alongside her reconnaissance duties. It offers a way to engage light vehicles and walkers, while her squad retains its own rifle equipment.

The important version change concerns Sharpshooter. In v0.7.16, the perk changed to reduce enemy cover level by two and applies only to special weapons and vehicle weapons. Build around that current restriction instead of spending a promotion expecting it to improve Crowbar volleys.

Decide which weapon needs the accessory slot

An Ammo Bag supports the special weapon; magazine pouches support the squad’s primary weapon. Equip the ammunition accessory that matches Darby’s intended workload.

If she will mainly fire the Crocodile, prioritize special-weapon endurance. If her squad will provide sustained rifle fire, retain primary-weapon ammunition support instead. Keep the accessory plan tied to what you intend to fire.

The same principle applies to promotions. Select Sharpshooter for the special-weapon version. For a primary-rifle build, spend toward scouting, concealment, or range instead.

Assign targets before committing

Direct Crocodile fire toward light vehicles, walkers, and other targets suited to anti-materiel fire. Bring a separate answer for heavy tanks instead of making Darby your entire anti-armor plan.

Use her special-weapon disruption against dangerous support units as opportunities appear. Disabling an enemy weapon for one turn gives the rest of your force room to act, even when the target remains alive.

Keep the MENACE Jane Darby build focused on precision. Avoid spending premium supply on both a heavily equipped rifle squad and a special weapon unless the mission gives both a clear job.

Forward Scout Build: Prepare the Assault Squad’s Advance

Build Darby as a forward scout when Lim, Tech, or another assault leader will handle the close-range fighting. Her job is to reveal the approach, preserve concealment, and help you choose where the attack begins.

Scout, Covert Ops, Vanguard, and a Camouflage Kit support this role. Chameleon is another concealment option used in stealth setups. Match the investment to whether you want Darby primarily gathering information or also delivering concealed attacks.

Open the route before moving the assault squad

Advance Darby carefully, inspect detection ranges, and use the revealed enemy positions to plan your assault squad’s movement. Keep her far enough from close-range threats that she can withdraw without requiring a rescue.

Use bushes for their additional concealment, and remember that deploying adds another point of concealment. Aim for the suggested three-to-four concealment range while continuing to check actual enemy detection.

At night, adjust equipment for visibility. Darkness affects vision and detection, so select Night Vision Goggles when nighttime scouting takes priority over another accessory.

Bring smoke somewhere in the force. It supports retreats, rescues, and assault movement by blocking enemy vision. In v0.7.16, Smoke Grenade supply cost increased from 10 to 15, so include that cost in mission preparation.

Use Sprint deliberately

Darby received Sprint in place of Standby in v0.7.16. Sprint costs 40 AP, moves up to five tiles, and leaves the unit winded.

Use it for a planned reposition or disengagement. Check the destination and remaining AP before committing, especially when moving a lightly protected scout.

Hotfix v0.7.17 changed Lim’s perk selection but did not reverse Darby’s Sprint swap. Reassign your refunded promotions after the balancing update, and rebuild around her current options.

For a budget MENACE Jane Darby build, keep Outcast Rags until you can equip Jaeger Fatigues, reuse ammunition accessories, and postpone promotions that do not serve the mission. Jaeger Fatigues became available through the Black Market in v0.7.16.

Pair Darby with Pike when you want additional action-point support. Transfer those AP when she already has a worthwhile target and firing position. Keep a close-range squad nearby so your expensive scout can continue doing her job.

FAQ

What weapon should I use for a MENACE Jane Darby build?

Use the BR3A3 Kr-BaR MOD3 Suppressed for a concealed, long-range rifle setup. Equip the Crocodile when you want a precision special-weapon role, and provide separate support against heavy tanks.

Does Sharpshooter improve Darby’s squad rifle?

In v0.7.16, Sharpshooter applies only to special weapons and vehicle weapons, reducing enemy cover level by two. Select it for the Crocodile setup; prioritize other perks for a Crowbar-focused squad.

Should Darby wear Outcast Rags or Jaeger Fatigues?

Start with Outcast Rags for their one point of concealment. Upgrade to Jaeger Fatigues for two concealment and two accessory slots, while maintaining careful positioning around their light protection.

Can Darby support an aggressive team?

Yes. Use her scouting to reveal threats before your assault squads advance. Keep her concealed, cover her with close-range troops, and use Pike’s action-point support when she has a valuable shot available.
