Where to Find the MENACE Reddit Community
A squad build can survive a rough mission and still need rebuilding after a balance patch. The MENACE reddit community is r/menace, which Overhype Studios includes among its channels for discussion, updates, and feedback. Before using MENACE reddit advice to spend promotion points or change your loadout, check which game version the discussion covers.
MENACE entered Early Access on February 5, 2026. You command a Republic Marine Corps strike force in the isolated Wayback system, balancing tactical battles with limited resources and operations that span multiple missions. That combination gives you plenty to discuss: squad leader perks, equipment costs, vehicle weapons, mission objectives, and campaign decisions.
Start with a specific question. “Help with my squad” gives other players little to work with. “How should I rebuild Lim after v0.7.17?” identifies the character, the update, and the decision you need to make.
Include these details when asking for tactical help:
- Your game version.
- The squad leader and perks involved.
- Your weapons, armor, and accessories.
- The enemy or mission causing trouble.
- Whether Ironman is enabled.
- What happened and what you expected instead.
Keep story questions clearly separated from combat questions, and mark spoilers when describing campaign events. For basic squad preparation, work through the in-game equipment and perk descriptions before posting. You will get more useful answers when everyone is discussing the same setup.
Check Patch Versions Before Copying a Build
Version numbers matter when browsing MENACE reddit builds. The v0.7.16 balancing update changed perks, equipment, Operational Capability Improvements, and several underlying combat rules. Its stated design goal was greater build variety while preserving situational choices.

That update remains compatible with existing saves. However, promotion points were refunded, and promotions must be reassigned because several perks changed or were replaced.
The following v0.7.17 hotfix made another important adjustment to Lim. Read those changes in sequence rather than combining an older build with the current perk tree.
| Update | Confirmed change | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| v0.7.16 | All promotion points refunded after perk changes | Reassign promotions before relying on an existing build |
| v0.7.16 | Standby and Take Aim merged into a reworked Take Aim | Reconsider advice that treats them as separate perks |
| v0.7.16 | Lim’s Zig Zag replaced with Sprint | Identify builds written during this version |
| v0.7.17 | Lim’s Solid Grouping replaced with Zig-Zag | Use the updated perk lineup |
| v0.7.17 | Lim’s perks reset and promotion points refunded | Reassign his promotions again |
The reworked Take Aim delays the active unit’s turn and grants a 10% accuracy bonus plus a 30% critical hit chance bonus. Sprint costs 40 AP, moves a unit up to five tiles, and applies the winded effect afterward. These mechanics support different decisions, so avoid treating one as an automatic replacement for the other.
Check weapon costs alongside damage. In v0.7.16, the Tripod Griffin Minigun received stronger firing modes and lower AP costs, but its supply cost increased from 50 to 65. An improvement in battlefield output can still demand a larger share of your deployment budget.
When comparing MENACE reddit recommendations, ask which constraint the build addresses. Accuracy, suppression, movement, and supply costs all matter. Compare complete loadouts rather than judging a weapon by one improved number.
Combat Changes Worth Understanding Before Your Next Mission
The balancing overhaul changed more than individual loadouts. Damage reduction now caps at 90%, movement has a minimum cost of 4 AP per tile, and firing blindly onto a tile carries a 60% accuracy penalty.

Those changes are especially relevant when a tactic depends on stacked defenses, unusually cheap movement, or attacks against enemies you cannot see.
| Mechanic | v0.7.16 behavior | Practical adjustment |
|---|---|---|
| Blind fire | Applies a −60% accuracy penalty | Account for that penalty before committing AP |
| Damage reduction | Capped at 90% | Check defensive combinations against the cap |
| Movement | Minimum cost of 4 AP per tile | Recalculate movement plans after perk changes |
| Critical hits | Gain 50% increased armor penetration | Include penetration when comparing critical hit builds |
| Hive Queen | Immune to stun effects | Remove stun-dependent steps from your attack plan |
| Mission exit | Unavailable during the enemy’s turn | Make withdrawal decisions during your own turn |
Rebuild Around the Exact Perk Effect
Several perks now do substantially different jobs. Sharpshooter reduces enemy cover level by two, but applies only to special weapons and vehicle weapons. Check the weapon category before investing in a setup intended to exploit it.
Grenadier adds one use to all grenade accessories. Pair that extra use with the updated accessory statistics when evaluating your loadout. Thermite Grenade, for example, increased from 35% to 45% maximum hitpoint damage, while its armor penetration rose from 140 to 180.
Fortify now also allows a sandbag cover placement once per mission. Include that limited placement in your mission plan instead of assuming it is a repeatable action.
Use MENACE reddit questions to examine a particular interaction: name the perk, name the weapon, and explain the intended result. That makes it easier to distinguish a changed mechanic from an equipment mismatch.
Respect the Updated Ironman Rules
In v0.7.16 Ironman, quitting or closing the game during a mission aborts that mission. Reloading also no longer allows you to revive squad leaders who were downed or killed during it.
Plan your session around those consequences. Finish the mission before closing the game, and avoid using an Ironman campaign to experiment with a risky interaction you do not understand.
Existing save compatibility does not remove those rules. Keep save compatibility, refunded promotions, and Ironman consequences separate when discussing an ongoing campaign.
Get Useful Help With Performance Problems
For technical MENACE reddit posts, identify the symptom before listing attempted fixes. Low performance, a crash, slow loading, and fullscreen problems point to different issues.

Hotfix #13, version v0.7.17, disabled Screen Space Global Illumination because its GPU cost was higher than expected and it could cause crashes. Check your version before comparing performance with a discussion written before that hotfix.
| Problem | Relevant behavior or change | Action to take |
|---|---|---|
| Performance drops or related crashes | v0.7.17 disabled Screen Space Global Illumination | Update before reassessing performance |
| Crashes with a high refresh rate monitor | Listed among known issues | Enable Vsync or lower the refresh rate to the stated 60 FPS or lower workaround |
| Fullscreen behaves incorrectly after minimizing | Listed among known issues | Try Fullscreen Window |
| Slow loading and delayed character barks | Associated with installation on an HDD | Include your storage type in the help request |
Record your GPU, display configuration, game version, and whether the issue begins during loading or combat. Describe the sequence that triggers the problem: launching the game, minimizing it, returning to a mission, or zooming the camera.
Avoid changing every setting at once. Apply the relevant workaround, repeat the same sequence, and describe the result. That keeps your troubleshooting readable and gives the next person something concrete to compare.
A useful report might read: “On v0.7.17, fullscreen behaves incorrectly after I minimize the game. Fullscreen Window avoids the problem.” That identifies the version, trigger, and result without turning one troubleshooting result into a universal fix.
When a MENACE reddit discussion concerns performance, compare matching symptoms and versions. A fix for slow HDD loading addresses a different problem from a crash associated with a high refresh rate display.
Separate Live Features From Campaign Plans
Roadmap discussions can make a returning player think every announced feature is already available. Keep the released balancing changes separate from the planned squad leader and story updates.
The roadmap for the rest of 2026 presents an intended release order. It gives an expectation that the updates will most likely arrive within the year, rather than fixed release dates.
| Roadmap item | Announced content | Campaign detail |
|---|---|---|
| Balancing overhaul | Broad perk, equipment, and stat adjustments | Released as v0.7.16; existing saves remain compatible |
| Squad Leader Update #2 | One new squad leader and one new pilot | Planned alongside Extended Campaign |
| Extended Campaign | Progression reduced to roughly half its current rate | Intended for a slower campaign pace |
| Main Story Expansion #1 | Story advancement, new Construct units, Level 2 Blueprints, and more items | Some content unlocks only in fresh campaigns; existing saves remain playable |
| 2027 outlook | System Map mechanics, planetary updates, more squad leaders, and further story development | Planned development direction |
Before restarting because of a MENACE reddit roadmap discussion, identify the feature you actually want. A balance patch with compatible saves presents a different decision from a story expansion containing content that requires a fresh campaign.
Extended Campaign specifically concerns slower progression. Keep that distinction in mind when comparing it with requests for an endless mode. The announced option reduces progression to roughly half its current rate; it does not describe an endless campaign.
The 2027 plans also include further character interactions, planetary environments and assets, missing planets and their factions, and the final piece of the story. Discuss those as development plans rather than features to build a current campaign around.
For the game itself, visit the MENACE Steam page. When returning after a break, check your installed version and review your squad promotions before launching the next operation.
FAQ
What is the MENACE reddit community called?
The MENACE reddit community is r/menace. Overhype Studios includes it among its channels for discussions, updates, and feedback. Include your game version when asking about builds, balance changes, or technical problems.
Why did my promotion points reset?
The v0.7.16 balancing update refunded all promotion points because perks changed or were replaced. You need to reassign promotions. In v0.7.17, Lim received another perk change, replacing Solid Grouping with Zig-Zag, and his promotions were reset and refunded again.
Does closing MENACE during an Ironman mission preserve my progress?
Under the v0.7.16 Ironman rules, quitting or closing the game during a mission aborts it. The update also prevents reloading to revive squad leaders who were downed or killed during the mission. Finish the mission before closing the game.
Should I restart my campaign for the October balance changes?
You can continue an existing save through v0.7.16 and v0.7.17. Reassign refunded promotions and inspect changed loadouts before deploying. The planned Main Story Expansion #1 has a separate requirement: some of its content unlocks only in fresh campaigns, although existing saves remain playable.
